Proposal Would Get Rid of Some MO Lawmakers

By Missy Shelton

Jefferson city, MO – Missouri lawmakers are considering legislation that would reduce the number of state Representatives and Senators.

Sen. Matt Bartle (R-Kansas City) says the General Assembly is too big. He's proposing the number of members of the Missouri House be reduced from 163 to 99, and reducing the Senate from 34 members to 33.

Bartle says that now Republicans control the House, Senate, and Govenror's Mansion, it's time to make serious changes.

"We are expecting every single executive branch agency to look for savings, and yet why wouldn't we look right here in the General Assembly," Bartle asked this week.

Bartle says his proposal would save millions of dollars.
