St. Louis, MO – The corner of Olive Street and North Boyle Avenue in the city of St. Louis is the entrance to a block of new homes today. But it has been long-known as the once-hot-spot called Gaslight Square.

Phyllis Diller, the Smothers Brothers and Woody Allen were among those who got their starts in the Square's clubs and bars.

Freelance writer Thomas Crone has written a new book about the area called "An Oral History of Gaslight Square."

He told KWMU's Tom Weber that his interest was piqued a few years ago after he wrote some newspaper articles about the area.
