Man Charged in Factory Shooting

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – A former employee of a conveyor belt plant has been charged today after he allegedly opened fire at the business, wounding a worker.

Authorities say Pelayo Errasti of St. Louis is charged with three counts of assault and three of armed criminal action.

St. Louis County police say he is being held without bail.

The 48-year-old surrendered to police shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, after speaking with a negotiator.

Witnesses heard multiple shots around 3 o'clock at Beltservice Corporation in Earth City and ran from the building. Several on site said it was miraculous that only one man was superficially injured. He has been releaesd from a hospital.

At one point, witnesses said the shooter went outside to reload his weapon.

Company cofounder Dick Engelsmann says about 110 employees were in the building at the time of the shooting.
