Phone Cos. Settle with Missouri on No-Call List

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Missouri's top law enforcer says the state has reached a deal with MCI and AT&T over its telemarketing no-call list.

Under the deal announced by Attorney General Jay Nixon, the telecommunications companies agree to stop making calls to consumers on the state's no-call list.

MCI has agreed to pay $40,000 to the state, while AT&T will pay $10,000.

Last summer, Nixon sued AT&T, MCI and SBC in federal court, alleging they violated federal law by making repeat calls to consumers who specifically told them they did not want to be called.

The lawsuit against SBC continues.

Last September, Nixon reached an agreement with Sprint, which promised to honor Missouri's no-call list.
