Kansas City – A new Missouri poll shows Democrat John Kerry with a narrow edge over President Bush. But the margin of error suggests a virtual dead heat.
The poll for The Kansas City Star and KMBC television came out Thursday. It was conducted by Market Research Institute.
The poll lists 46 percent of respondents favoring Kerry to 44 percent for Bush. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus four percent.
Four years ago, Bush carried Missouri, winnings its eleven electoral votes with 50 percent of the vote to 47 percent for Democrat Al Gore.
Both campaigns have concentrated heavily on Missouri this year. Bush came to the state again this week, a day after a visit by Vice President Cheney.
Thirty-nine percent of the poll respondents viewed Cheney favorably, with 41 percent having an unfavorable opinion of him and 20 percent no opinion of the vice president.
Kerry's running mate, North Carolina Senator John Edwards, was seen favorably by 51 percent, unfavorably by 20 percent, and 29 percent had no opinion on him.
