Jefferson City, Mo. – The Missouri House has passed a bill that could allow lawsuits against anyone who helps a minor avoid the state's parental consent law for abortions.
Thursday's House vote sends the bill to the Senate.
Existing law requires anyone younger than 18 to get consent from a parent, guardian or court before having an abortion.
But some teen-agers avoid the law by going to Illinois, which has no parental consent law.
Under the bill, parents and guardians could sue anyone who intentionally helps a minor avoid the abortion consent law.
