St. Louis – State officials in Missouri hope to improve firearm safety by distributing free gun locks.
In St. Louis Tuesday, Governor Bob Holden and area law enforcement officials announced the giveaway of more than a half-million locks.
It's part of Operation Child Safe a program managed by a gun industry trade group.
Holden says firearm safety is more important than ever.
"At a time in our state when those carrying firearms will certainly increase due to the concealed weapons bill, we must take every action possible to prevent gun-related accidents, particularly among children," Holden said.
The locks will be available at more than 400 locations around the state. That includes law enforcement agencies and state conservation offices.
