Hundreds of Missourians Apply For Concealed Gun Permits

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – More than 200 Missourians have applied for concealed gun permits under a new law that some sheriffs are implementing and some are not.

The Highway Patrol says it's recieved 220 requests for fingerprint background checks from sheriffs.

Gun rights supporters say sheriffs have issued permits to at least six people. The sheriffs may have gone ahead without the fingerprint results because they know the applicants.

But concealed gun opponents say any permits already issued could violate the section of the law requiring fingerprint checks. They've asked Attorney General Jay Nixon to look into the matter.
