Jefferson City, MO – A state senator says Missouri license plates should be re-designed and re-issued.
Lake St. Louis Republican Jon Dolan said Tuesday a new look will make it clear who's driving around with expired plates or tags, and force them to pay up. He says that would mean millions of dollars for state coffers. Dolan offered his idea to the Senate Transportation Committee.
His original bill also would have done away with mandatory passenger vehicle inspections. But he backed off that idea after hearing opposition from mechanics and others.
A committee would design the new plates, which would be issued in 2006.
Motorists would be charged a fee of up to $2.50 for the new plates.
The committee took no action.
