McCaskill, Holden Close in Polls

By KWMU Staff

St. Louis – A new poll shows incumbent Bob Holden and State Auditor Claire McCaskill locked in a close race for the Democratic primary for Missouri governor.

The poll, conducted for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KMOV-TV, finds Holden with 32-percent to McCaskill's 31-percent among 500 likely Democratic voters.

Thirty-seven percent of those surveyed last week said they are undecided how they'll vote in the August 3 primary.

McCaskill says she is encouraged by the poll's findings.

"We have spent, literally, a mere fraction of what has been spent by both Matt Blunt and Governor Holden at this point in time and to be in the thick of it like this without having to spend really any money, it's, it's great," McCaskill said.

Another poll released last week by Kansas City media also showed Holden and McCaskill in a tight race, with a large number of voters still undecided.
