St. Louis, MO – Republican St. Louis County Counciman Greg Quinn has been serving as acting county executive since Friday, when Westfall's condition became critical.
But to comply with the county charter, a Democratic council member will take over when the panel meets Tuesday night.
Westfall spokesman Mac Scott says some duties still need to be performed:
"Only the county executive can sign bills," Scott said. "Essentially, it's bills passed by the county council that have to be signed by the county executive within 15 days of passage. So it was necessary to name an acting county executive in order for these things to happen."
Scott says Westfall's condition is improving and he is expected to make a full recovery...although it's not known how long Westfall will remain in the hospital.
