St. Louis, Mo. – New University of Missouri at St. Louis chancellor Thomas George delivered his first state of the university address Wednesday.

George began his tenure on September 1 and says he has not had much time to formulate a complete vision for the school.

But he laid out several components of an action plan, which he wants to complete by next spring. George says one important aspect of improving UM-St. Louis is securing more state funding.

"My read of this is that we are under funded, relative to our peers in the state and within the system and I'll do everything I can to help work out a process that we get more equitable funding for this university," George said.

George says the university is growing but it's important to spread the word about UM-St. Louis. To that end, the school has hired a marketing firm.
