St. Louis, Mo. – The Army Corps of Engineers has started raising levels on the Missouri River again.
The agency had dropped them for three days this week because a judge ordered it to. The order aimed to lower the water to protect endangered species.
Brigadier General William Grisoli says flows should be normal by tomorrow night. He says the water is also being raised slowly to protect the species' nesting spots.
"But as we raise the water, sandbars, etc. are made smaller and we want to make sure we have people monitoring," Grisoli said.
The corps was lowering levels in South Dakota so the water wont' actually start dipping in the St. Louis region until next week.
