St. Louis Schools May Dump Greenhouse

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis School District may soon sell its greenhouse and nursery, which grows plants for use on school grounds for landscaping.

The private company currently running the district is asking why the district needs a greenhouse. It may be one of the first things to go as the district looks for ways to craft a budget.

The 12-acre garden complex was acquired in 1924; it's home to thousands of ferns, cactus, palms and flowers for school grounds and landscaping.

Shutting down the greenhouse and cutting the $355,000 grounds maintenance budget will help close a reputed $90 million dollar cash shortfall.
