Columbia, MO – Officials with the University of Missouri System and Northwest Missouri State University have decided to wait until next year's legislative session to get approval for a merger.
UM System President Elson Floyd and Northwest President Dean Hubbard say there's not enough time for the General Assembly to consider the merger in the current legislative session, which ends next month.
Floyd says adding a fifth campus would strengthen UM's academic presence in northwestern Missouri, and allow the institutions to share administrative costs.
