St. Louis, MO – St. Louis public school children could soon don school uniforms.
The school board last night asked administrators to propose a plan by February to outfit the district's 41,000 students in uniform.
Some of the district's 113 schools already encourage students to wear uniforms.
The board plans to ask administrators to review uniform policies in other districts and seek advice from parents and the community. Experts say student achievement and conduct improve with the wearing of uniforms.
This fall, public schools in Memphis, Tennessee, began requiring its 118,000 students in preschool through 12th grade to wear uniforms.
