St. Louis – Environmental groups are anxiously awaiting a decision by the EPA regarding the West Lake Landfill in North St. Louis County.
Since 1973, the landfill has been the home of radioactive waste that dates back to the Manhattan Project, a World War II nuclear weapons initiative.
Environmentalists want the waste removed, while the EPA has proposed a plan to place an engineered cap over the area and cover it with construction rubble.
