Kansas City, Mo. – A Kansas City bookstore owner has begun burning about 20,000 used books.
Tom Wayne says he is protesting what he sees as diminishing support for the printed word.
He decided to torch the books after libraries and thrift stores turned down his efforts to donate them.
The first book burning lasted nearly an hour before the Kansas City Fire Department put it out.
Wayne did not get a burning permit, but says he plans to in the future.
