St. Louis – The votes are in, and Mark McGwire is not headed to baseball's Hall of Fame.
Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn are the only members of the 2007 class. Rich Gossage fell just short.
McGwire received just 23 percent of the vote, far short of the 75 percent needed to get in. McGwire set what was then the all-time single-season home run record with 70 in 1998.
But steroid accusations have dogged him since his retirement, worsened by his refusal to answer questions before a Congressional panel in 2005.
This year was the first year McGwire was eligible for induction.
