Belleville, Ill. – There was a fundraiser Sunday in the Metro-East for a wounded Belleville police officer. Sergeant Jon Brough was shot in the face Friday at the beginning of a stand-off with a suspect.
He remains in critical condition at Saint Louis University Hospital.
The suspect, Larry Sicka, was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He's believed to have earlier killed his ex-wife's parents in Swansea.
Also on Sunday, Brough's wife thanked the public for its support today. Wendy Brough said her husband will prove his "courage and determination" as he recovers from his wounds.
Illinois State Police are reviewing the incident.
