St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis school board has appointed board member Vincent Schoemehl to serve on the district's pension board.

He was appointed at Tuesday night's school board meeting over the objections of several attendees. They instead endorsed Joseph Clark, a former pension board member whose reappointment had been in question. Schoemehl justified his appointment by saying a school board member can dispel rumors circulating about the pension system.

"Things I'd heard like we're going to raid the pension board to fund the Cardinals stadium. I think it's that kind of rumor mongering that I think someone from the school board has got to be there to get the facts and make sure the community is informed about what's going on," Schoemehl said.

Schoemehl also offered a public apology for remarks he made earlier this year that many in the community deemed offensive.
