Civil Society Initiative Open House

The Civil Society Initiative at Washington University in St. Louis supports teaching and research that aims to promote and understand responsible democratic citizenship.

Join us for a series of lightning talks, a poster session, and a reception to learn about our work on disagreement, political discourse, freedom of opinion, and more. We want to share our work with our community and to know what you think about it!

Talks will include:

"Teaching for Reasonable Disagreement" (Anne Baril, Philosophy)
"Political Personalities" (Ron Mallon, Philosophy and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology)
"Liberty of Conscience" (Amy Gais, Political Science and the Interdisciplinary Project in the Humanities)
"How Polarization Can Be Rational" (Mason Westfall, Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology)
"The Value of Imagination in Politics" (Allan Hazlett, Philosophy)

As well as poster presentations on economic inequality, immigration, involuntary commitment laws, and more.
