How many of this summer’s park concerts have been rained out? We’re betting a lot. And to try to change the mojo a little, this installment is going to include an indoor option.
But first, the folks who have put on the acclaimed Art on the Square in Belleville are producing Wine, Dine and Jazz – also at the Square, which is really a circle around the fountain. But we digress.
Wine and food will be available to buy, but the jazz is free. On Friday, catch Jim Manley at 5 p.m., Usual Suspects at 6:45 p.m. and Anita Rosamond featuring Vince Martin at 8:30 p.m. Jim Stevens takes the stage Saturday at 4 p.m., followed by Dawn Weber at 5:30 p.m., the Kingdom Brothers Blues Band at 7 p.m. and the Soul Café Jazz Group at 8:45 p.m.
The items on the Big List – see below – are outdoors and free. But given the fickleness of Mother Nature recently, indoors might be good. The 10th Annual Miles Davis Jazz Festival isn’t free, but it is a fundraiser for the Alton Museum of History & Art. So if you’d like to hear saxophonist Fred Walker, the Danny Campbell Quartet and the Montez Coleman Trio in the town where Miles was born, go to the Jacoby Arts Center Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. The center is at 627 E. Broadway and tickets are $25. The evening will also include an update on the Miles Davis Memorial Project.

We are looking for other free, outdoor concert series to add. We have contacted some and will get the information onto the chart as soon as possible. Check back weekly for information about upcoming concerts.
