High Fives: Kristen Hare

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, May 1, 2013 - For the Beacon's fifth birthday, we've asked people to share five favorite things from over the years.

  1. This one from when I first started with the Beacon, just as the economy was starting to sink. I thought then, and still think, it's a small story that helps tell a big one: A sign of the times on craigslist
  2. It was exciting to watch the 7 Nights in July project unfold. My part in it came when the cast of a high school production of "Dreamgirls" went to see the Muny's production and meet Jennifer Holliday. I was writing vignettes to go along with some really great photos and captured this moment on Twitter: "Hey mom, I just met Jennifer Holliday ... I know right?" Scenes from Saturday night's trip to the Muny with McClure:— Kristen Hare (@kristenhare) It wasn't breaking news. It wasn't political. It was a special moment in one person's life and she let the Beacon be a part of it.

  3. We did the holidays of years gone by photo project for the past two years, and it's been cool to see these old images and, sometimes, connect them with the present.
  4. I think the Art of Fatherhood series was powerful, and this was my favorite story from it: From day 133, three men step in to fill the role of one.
  5. And finally, I had a lot of fun with Parking Lot Thursdays.
