Jefferson City, Mo. – It's now too late to register to vote in Missouri for the next election, as the deadline passed today at 5:00 p.m.
State officials are now turning their attention to absentee voting and making sure people's addresses are correct. Laura Egerdal with the Secretary of State's office says Missourians who want an absentee ballot mailed to them have until October 27th to request one.
"But then here in Missouri you can cast an absentee ballot in person all the way up until the day before Election Day (Tuesday, November 2nd), in the central office of your local election authority," Egerdal said.
Absentee ballots can also be picked up at local election offices or downloaded from the website govotemissouri.com.
Meanwhile, citizens who did not miss the registration deadline could still miss out if their home address information is incorrect. Egerdal says those potential voters need to fill out a new registration form.
"You can actually update your address on your voter registration all the way up until Election Day with that same form," Egerdal said. "So if anyone has moved between now and Election Day, they can still update their address."
Egerdal says more than 105,000 Missourians have registered to vote this year, and 600,000 have updated their addresses.
