St. Louis – Southwest Airlines is adding nine daily flights from Lambert Airport
The news comes just a month after American Airlines announced it would cut 46 flights and 20 destinations from St. Louis.
Southwest Wednesday it expects to add the flights by May, including six direct flights to new destinations.
That saves direct service to four cities--Nashville, New Orleans, San Diego, and Raleigh-Durham--that Lambert would have lost next year with American Airlines' cutbacks. Southwest's new destinations also include Los Angeles and Seattle.
The carrier had already planned to add non-stop service to Minneapolis-St. Paul in January.
Southwest said with the new flights, the airline will have more daily departures from St. Louis than any other carrier.
