St. Louis – The St. Louis Rams introduced their new head coach Monday.
Steve Spagnuolo comes to St. Louis from New York, where he was defensive coordinator for the Giants. Before that he spent eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
While defense has been his specialty, Spagnuolo said he's ready to be head coach.
"I think it's a natural progression," Spagnuolo said. "I had a group of linebackers and [defensive backs,] then progressed to a unit of defensive players. The next natural progression for me is to have the whole team."
Spagnuolo did not mention any specifics about how he hopes to rebuild the Rams after a 2-14 season, but he says he has a "team first" philosophy.
Spagnuolo signed a four-year, $11.5 million contract on Saturday.
He replaces Jim Haslett, who was named head coach after Scott Linehan was fired four games into the season.
