House okays tax credits and bridge bills

The Missouri House has passed the economic development and bridge bills, though not without some controversy.

Prior to passing the bills, House Democrats attempted to add on dozens of amendments, and almost every time they tried they were ruled out of order by House Speaker Rod Jetton.

Democrat Ed Wildberger of St. Joseph took issue with the way the special session's being conducted:

"In the call I saw nowhere where it said, 'thou shalt not amend any of the subject matter in the call,'" Wildberger said. "It wasn't there. I don't think the governor handed that down to us."

But the House Speaker and other GOP leaders argued that the state constitution gives the governor the right to set the agenda for a special session.

In the end, both bills passed with bipartisan support and relatively few no votes.
