St. Louis, MO – Judy Shannon, the wife of Cardinals baseball broadcaster Mike Shannon, died Saturday. She was 66 and had been fighting brain cancer for about a year.
Judith Ann (Bufe) and Mike Shannon were married 48 years. Mike Shannon had taken periodic leaves from broadcasting to be with his wife during her illness.
St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa called Mike Shannon part of the Cardinals family. "The loss is as serious and sad as anything I can imagine," he said on Sunday.
Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. also issued a statement: "On behalf of the entire Cardinals organization and its fans, we would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to the Shannon family on the loss of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Judy Shannon."
The couple has six children, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
