Jefferson City, MO. – The Missouri House has passed a crime bill that contains an amendment outlawing partial birth abortion.

The amendment would make it a crime for a doctor to perform abortions that involve partially extracting a fetus from the mother's body.

Republican Representative Rick Stream of Kirkwood sponsors the original crime bill, but is pleased with the abortion amendment:

"The Speaker's amendment basically brings Missouri's language now into compliance with what the Supreme Court decided, so we should not be in non-compliance with the Supreme Court." Stream said.

Democratic House Member Beth Low of Kansas City says, though, the amendment doesn't make an exception for a mother whose health is threatened by a pregnancy.

The bill now goes to the Senate.
