East St. Louis, Ill. – East St. Louis Mayor Carl Officer says he will run for re-election next year.
He told supporters this week that he has kept some of his campaign promises, and he blamed those he didn't keep on uncooperative members of the City Council.
This is Officer's second time as mayor, having served during the 80s. He was the youngest mayor in the country when he was first elected in 1979 at the age of 27. His first go-around as mayor ended in 1991, and he was elected back into the job in 2003.
Officer's family also runs a well-known funeral home in East St. Louis.
