St. Louis, MO – Some critics of the St. Louis School Board recently have demanded that some board members be recalled. But that's not possible because state law doesn't allow it.
Missouri State Senator Maida (D-St. Louis) Coleman has for the past few years tried to pass such a law in Jefferson City. And she says she plans to try again next year.
"You put these things in place so you can deal with the most blatant issues that come up with school board members, not just to get rid of get rid of somebody every time people are not happy," says Coleman.
Coleman adds the effort won't be an effort to get rid of any current board members in St. Louis; she says she just wants to empower voters and adds she supports the current board.
She says rural, not urban, lawmakers have blocked her effort in the past because her bill would allow recalls in all of the state's school districts.
