St. Louis, MO. – The state of Missouri and the federal government are assessing the damage from last week's storms.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, is helping the state conduct preliminary damage assessments in St. Louis city, St. Louis County and St. Charles County.
Eleven months ago, FEMA came under fire for its slow response to Hurricane Katrina. But spokesman Spence Jackson with Governor Matt Blunt's office says FEMA is doing a good job:
"They've been very responsive to our needs here in the state, and I think have done a remarkable job in keeping their counterparts in Washington up to speed on what's going on here, which is critical in a situation like this," Blunt said.
The teams expect to complete their assessment by tomorrow. The data will be used to determine how much federal money will be paid to storm victims.
