Home evacuation lifted near Metro-East train derailment

By AP/KWMU

Troy, Ill. – The 50 or so Metro Easters who were evacuated after Tuesday's train derailment near Troy have been allowed to go back home.

About 20 of the 131 cars on the CSX train went off the tracks, though it's not known how. Spills of ammonium nitrate and hydrogen peroxide were contained, no one was hurt, state health officials say there was no danger to the public or environment.

The train went off the tracks between Troy and St. Jacob, Ill. The tracks were expected to re-open Wednesday night.

The train was headed to Indianapolis from St. Louis.
