St. Louis – An engineer hired by AmerenUE says the company's Taum Sauk hydroelectric reservoir failed because of poor design and construction materials.
Engineer Paul Rizzo says inadequate maintenance of instrumentation and control systems were also to blame.
In December, a billion gallons of water rushed down the side of Profitt Mountain near Lesterville, Mo. when the reservoir broke open.
Ameren chairman Gary Rainwater says the company has already created a dam safety program and will reexamine safety procedures. State and federal investigations continue.
