Kansas City, Mo. – A federal judge has upheld a state law banning sexually oriented billboards along Missouri highways.
The two-year-old measure prevents most strip clubs or adult stores from putting up provocative signs within a mile of a highway.
The owner of two St. Louis-area businesses sued the state last year.
John Haltom argued that the law has an overly-broad definition of adult stores, and limits freedom of speech.
But Judge Gary Fenner ruled the measure does not prevent Haltom from advertising. It just doesn't allow him to advertise that he sells adult items.
