St. Louis, MO – Longtime TV newsman Julius Hunter was officially sworn this morning (Wednedsay) as a member of the St. Louis Police Board.
Hunter joins the board just days after city aldermen approved a civilian review board for police. For years, supporters tried to get such a plan passed, but the board is far from being a reality.
Mayor Francis Slay on Friday said he won't sign it because of what he calls anti-police language in the bill. It could still take effect if he does nothing.
The police board, with Hunter as its newest member, would then need to approve the plan as the final step in determining whether the review board actually becomes a reality.
Hunter was nominated by Governor Matt Blunt February 14th and was confirmed by the Missouri Senate nine days later.
For years, Hunter was a news anchor at Channel 4 (KMOV) in St. Louis.
