Jefferson City, MO – The state Supreme Court Tuesday upheld Missouri's 24-hour waiting period for abortions.
Justices unanimously rejected claims from Planned Parenthood that the law is unconstitutionally vague and violates liberty and privacy rights.
The law requires doctors to wait a day to perform an abortion after discussing various risks with women. Yesterday's ruling does not affect a separate lawsuit in federal court. Last year, a federal judge allowed the 24-hour wait to take effect but issued a preliminary injunction against the law's language describing what patients and doctors must discuss.
