Alton banker gets day in prison for misusing funds

By AP/KWMU

East St. Louis, Ill. – A former Metro East bank president and Southern Illinois University trustee received a lenient sentence from a federal judge on charges of misusing funds from the bank.

Judge Michael Reagan sentenced Mark Repking Friday to one day in prison, time the man already has served. Repking also must pay $100,000 in fines and serve three years on supervised release.

Repking pleaded guilty in October to felony charges that, as president of Alton-based Liberty Bank, he hid taxable income from the government and helped a customer overstate his account to get financing for corporate projects.

Repking also admitted to misusing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the bank for personal use.
