St. Louis, MO – St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch said Tuesday it's ending a promotion called Bud Pong because people were using beer instead of water.
Bud Pong called for people to play a game of Ping-Pong and take a drink every time they lost a point. But A-B says cups should have been filled with water, not beer.
"It has come to our attention that despite our explicit guidelines, there may have been instances where this promotion was not carried out in the manner it was intended," said Francine Katz, vice president of communications and consumer affairs, in a statement.
"The intent of this program was to provide adults who socialize in bars with a fun activity, and we believe overwhelmingly that those who have participated in Bud Pong have enjoyed themselves, while acting responsibly," Katz added
