Jefferson City, MO – Judge Ronnie White is finishing his two-year term as chief justice of the Missouri Supreme Court this week.

He says the state's court system has become more diverse in both race and points of view in his time.

The chief justice post rotates every two years. Michael Wolff will become the next chief justice.

White was the first African-American to be chief justice. He says he's not leaving the Supreme Court at this point, but adds that he's open to pursuing other opportunities in the future.

White is also well-known for being twice nominated by President Clinton to serve on the federal bench. But then-Senator John Ashcroft led a Senate fight to defeat his nomination.
