Rainfall below normal in area

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Even though flood warnings are in effect along the Missouri river, meteorologists say rainfall is still several inches below average in the St. Louis area.

The Missouri River is expected to crest slightly above flood stage early Thursday. And further upstream, some agricultural bottomland is already under water.

But National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Kramper says he doesn't anticipate any major problems.

As far as we know, no roads are expected to be impacted in any serious nature, so this is really just a response to the recent rains that have fallen in the Missouri basin, Kramper said.

Kramper says eastern Missouri is still 3 to 6 inches below the springtime average for rainfall.

And he says the recent storms have been spotty, with some areas receiving several inches of rain while others got only a half inch.
