House Springs, MO – Jefferson County officials now say there was no sniper along Route 30 near Byrnes Mill this week, just a guy firing a gun into the air.
Sheriff Glen Boyer called it "just a drunken teenage party that got out of hand."
No one along Route 30 was hurt. Reports came in early Sunday morning of shots fired. When police arrived, they thought they might have been shot at, as well.
Donald Christie, 19, now faces charges of unlawfully using a weapon. Police say he was just firing the gun into a tree and the air behind his parents' home in Jefferson County, which is near a bluff that overlooks Route 30.
Authorities had worried that the suspect may have been a sniper who was shooting at motorists on the nearby highway.
Christie was arrested Monday night on unrelated outstanding traffic warrants.
