Chesterfield Police Say Scientist Poisoned

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Police in the St. Louis suburb of Chesterfield have ruled the death of an area scientist as a homicide.

They say long-awaited autopsy results point to foul play.

Dr. John Mullen was a nuclear physicist and a former McDonnell Douglas research scientist.

He complained of feeling poorly the morning of June 29th. He called for an ambulance and was rushed to the hospital, but a few hours later, the 67-year-old died.

A toxicology report from the St. Louis County medical examiner says Mullen died of acute arsenic intoxication. Findings show Mullen's system was full of the poison and Chesterfield police have now ruled the death a homicide.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
