U.S. Supreme Court Will Hear MO Execution Case

By Nina Totenberg, NPR

Washington, DC – In the latest debate over the death penalty, the Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday about the constitutionality of executing minors.

Specifically, the court will hear the case of Christopher Simmons, of Fenton. Simmons was 17 when he threw Shirley Crook off a bridge.

At issue before the justices is whether executing juveniles for crimes they commit at age 16 or 17 is cruel and unusual punishment. To hear NPR's legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg report, as it aired on Morning Edition, click here.
