St. Louis, MO – A group called the Stakeholders Assembly finalized its recommendations yesterday for changing the way St. Louis City government works.
Stakeholders will now gather signatures to get four questions on the November ballot.
They include reducing the number of alderman from 28 to 15, but also letting alderman change the budget in ways they currently can't.
A number of offices like Treasurer and License Collector that are currently elected would become appointed.
Former Mayor Jim Conway calls it the most significant civic event that he's ever been a part of.
"This is pretty much a package," he added. "I think people who are going to vote for these are going to vote for all of them because - even though they stand individually - collectively it really will make a difference in the perception of the city of St. Louis."
Stakeholders will detail their proposals to the public in a meeting Saturday morning at Forest Park Community College.
They also agreed last night to meet again next year to discuss keeping some form of an assembly to debate other possible changes to city government.
