St. Louis – Formal charges have been issued in the murder-for-hire case involving St. Louis Blues player Mike Danton.

Thursday, a federal grand jury in East St. Louis handed down a three-count indictment against Danton and Katie Wolfmeyer, the 19-year-old woman who allegedly put Danton in contact with a would-be hit man.

Ron Tenpas, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, says Danton is in the process of being extradited from California.

"It's not simply a matter, for example, of him getting on a plane with two marshals and being flown directly here," Tenpas said. "They have a system of transport: their own planes, their own buses and things like that. So we don't yet have a firm date."

If convicted, Danton and Wolfmeyer could face up to 10 years in prison, a 250-thousand dollar fine, or both.
