St. Louis – St. Louis Public schools officials and the city health department are still trying to figure out what caused several dozen Lafayette elementary school students to get sick Tuesday after lunch.
The officials met Wednesday with executives of Aramark, the food service company the school system hired last month.
Interim superintendent Bill Roberti says whatever the cause, the problem is not acceptable.
"We are cooperating fully with the health department," Roberti said. "They're going to be very thorough, and we hope by early next week we'll have an idea of where this problem came from and why it happened."
Officials are also investigating a few instances of illness at five other elementary schools.
Aramark brought in frozen meals for students Wednesday.
An Aramark spokesman says the company is conducting its own investigation of possible food contamination.
The schools have temporarily stopped serving food from Clovervale Foods and milk from Prairie Farms.
