St. Louis – The East-West Gateway Coordinating Council changed its name Wednesday. The group will now be known as the East-West Gateway Council of Governments.
Executive Director Les Sterman says the new name better reflects the organization's mission of cooperation between the area's many local governing bodies.
"Although most people just refer to us as East-West Gateway, I think the Coordinating Council has had a lot of people confused over our nearly 40 years of existence," Sterman said. "So the Council of Governments I think describes more accurately who we are as an organization."
The Council works on transportation, environmental and other issues that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
The group also recently began a study of local government finances.
