Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri Auditor Claire McCaskill today released the second part of her audit on the state's foster care system.
McCaskill says the system - first and foremost - needs to better manage information.
"We found 923 social workers listed on their system that are not on their payroll records. We were unable to determine what the caseloads of the various workers were," McCaskill said.
McCaskill says the department of social services disregarded criminal background check information in at least three cases, issuing foster parents licenses anyway. The audit also points to excess payments to foster parents that didn't house children.
